The instrument identifies discernible layer interfaces. Where no suitable interface can be identified, the instrument may return no reading rather than presenting an unsupported result.

Interpretation & Validation

Non-destructive information must be used in context

GPR performance is influenced by construction materials, moisture, interface contrast, surface condition, survey configuration and the required target depth.

Important survey considerations

  • A radar reflection indicates an electromagnetic contrast; it does not by itself identify the material or cause.
  • Weak or gradual layer boundaries may not provide a clear interface for automatic depth measurement.
  • Spot measurements do not replace a continuous profile where variation across the route must be understood.
  • Survey results should be correlated with available drawings, construction records, cores or other site evidence where required.
  • Product and antenna selection should be based on the expected construction, required depth, resolution and site access.
